You might be asking yourself, what is Earth Medicine? Is it like Wicca? Witchcraft? Magic? North or South American Indian ways? Celtic wisdom?
Earth Medicine is the healing art of working with plant, mineral and animal qualities to bring about holistic wellness in the mind and spirit.
For some, this information lands like a direct hit on the soul: those who have always felt at home in nature, have felt that sense of awe in the plant kingdom, have wondered why certain animals come around exhibiting odd behaviors at coincidental times…
It is likely that if you have found this page, there is something about Earth Medicine which sounds interesting or useful to you. In the certification program and e-courses I’ve designed, the foundation is built on the idea that all living things are sacred-including YOU.
I have a way of helping people, women in particular, become intimate with their “medicine”. That means rather than teaching my students about a wide variety of plants, crystals, stones, minerals and animals, I ask them to bring forward what they are drawn to, and I help them see and work alongside these earthy helpers to bring insights and even directives for the purpose of easeful living and healing of trauma.
Sometimes I work with what some of my elders calls “thought medicine”. Those in substance recovery might think of that which makes them addicted and ill as “broken thinking”. My approach is an integrative, philosophical approach to healing with Earth Medicine which addresses the way we think about things, as well as the ideas which come through working with the healing qualities of the living entities. Sandra Ingerman wrote about this in her way in the books, Walking in Light and Medicine for the Earth. I love Sandra’s work, as well as her mentor’s, Michael Harner, who brought key concepts of indigenous shamanism to the Western world for practical application in the nineties.
I believe that when we learn about the plant, mineral and animal ways, we are able to integrate that biological wisdom into our modern psyches. For over seven years I have been teaching various forms of shamanic journey to women who have come into my programs. You can learn more about shamanic “journey” by listening to my audio, Why Journey.
To sample my style of teaching journey, you can begin by taking a Guided Meditation with Hummingbird or jump right into a Guided Journey with Deer. Both will give you a good flavor for the work I do in my self-study courses and in my certification program, SouLodge Earth Medicine School.
